House 110-112 Vo Van Tan Ho Chi Minh – Vietnam – Progetto

Progetto

House 110-112 Vo Van Tan was built between 1925 and 1927 (late Khai Dinh and Bao Dai period). The architectural style is typical of Western Europe, but the layout of the space and interior decoration is characterised by East Asian thinking; a coming together of Eastern and Western techniques widely seen in the early twentieth century.
The house is thought to have had at least three owners and undergone several renovation and restoration projects over the years. The original colonial-style French-influenced architecture is largely unharmed but the decorative motifs on the interior walls and ceilings are almost completely hidden under layers of overpainting.

The restoration of the interior walls and ceilings will take place over a period of two years. First the layers of overpainting will be removed with chemical and mechanical means and then restorers will clean and consolidate the surfaces before proceeding with the pictorial integration of the decorative motifs.
